Photorealistic Self Portraits

 

 

After a brief survey of pop art that included the work of Chuck Close, David Hockney and Andy Warhol, 10th grade students used Photoshop to create variations on a self portrait based on a green screen photo that was taken in class. The end products were then made into a video.

Animation Projects

 

 

Using a program called Animationish, middle school elective students created short stick-figure animations that were edited together to the tune of David Bowie's song "Fame."

News from the 7th Grade

A news and information program about what's in the hearts and minds of 7th graders, produced during the 2014-2015 school year. This program includes four segments: the differences between the Marvel and DC comics superheroes; the controversy over whether the tomato is a fruit or a vegetable; trendy footwear for boys and girls; and a segment on the Vine sensation and pop star Shawn Mendes.

Notes from the 6th Grade

6th graders practice their interviewing skills while learning how to produce a short-form talk show. Students learn about the roles and responsibilities of the various crew positions in our 4-camera television studio by serving as the camera operators, teleprompter operator, floor manager, director, technical director, audio engineer, graphics and lighting personnel, as well as being a member of a live studio audience.

ePluribus Forum

Scholars' Academy 10th grader, Kevin C., interviews practicing attorney Joe Mure, who hosts the Little North Pole extravaganza held in Neponsit Rockaway, Queens each December. Mr. Mure is interviewed about his experiences with the project he founded 20 years ago, and how he has raised millions of dollars for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Oral History Project

 

 

Students from the 9th Grade Digital Storytelling elective produced oral biographies, video essays, and community-based documentaries. Lauren interviews her grandfather, Anthony Giampietro, about several near-death experiences he had while serving in the military during the Korean War.
